E.A.S.T. Tour...Looking forward to 2012

The E.A.S.T. was a wonderful and inspiring experience. To meet and view all the other artists spaces and to see so much uniqueness and variety was a treat. I am very thankful to my hosts for letting me share their space and to all who came and supported the artists. Sorry this post is kind of late. The E.A.S.T. was my last art show of 2011. 2012 is still manifesting...but I have some awesome paintings I am going to upload soon and prints to be made available in my Etsy shop---stay tuned (: !

Art Outside Recap

I wanted to share my set up of my paintings that I created for Art Outside:

There were many challenging technical issues that had to be dealt with as they came up-from 20 mph wind gusts that kept making my canopy collapse, to lighting problems---so thank full to our awesome neighbors that loaned me their extension cord so I could reach the power grid and light up my art! Then a deluge of rain! Unfortunately-- I had to pack up my paintings early due to the impending storm that was on its way to the area.

The amazing encounters I had with everyone that took time to look were priceless. Seeing all the people, art and effort that goes into such a special and unique event was magical.

This sculpture was amazing under the moon! My cell phone camera does not do it justice..

And where else could I see a giant white snake slither by?

A Cosmic Variety of Pachyderm and Friend

This was inspired by a very positive experience I had with mantra and meditation...being skeptical I was pleasantly surprised by a flurry of good tidings that happened afterwards. The elephant and the cardinal are symbolic of this. It goes to show that maybe there is more to it...if you are open to receive it...either way be grateful!

"The Web"--- in Progress!!!!

First photo is one I shot of the creepy spider I found living outside the doorway of my house.
The second is an ink drawing comp on the panel, ready to get its first layer of ground and white egg tempera paint! There will be a web painted in later after the sky is completed.
And last, the white egg tempera value painting is done, now the color glazes need to be added.

A Beautiful Poisen-latest oil painting

My latest oil painting entitled, "A Beautiful Poison" oil and egg tempera on masonite, approx. (16"x20"). This piece was inspired by a sad personal event in my life some years ago, and the image of a sleeping bird, half dead/asleep came up and then I eventually combined it with the poppies, which are symbolic of sleep/death....as they languish there, there is the realization that everyone can become a slave to their poison, which can be anything in life-drugs.sex.power.food.money.,etc...it is so alluring that it is so easy to become blissfully unaware of the true state of your addiction.

Underpainting for "A Beautiful Poisen”

Here is a shot of an under painting of an almost finished painting called
"A Beautiful Poisen." I started this one a while back and it is almost finished!
Here you can see the white egg tempera underpainting on the red earth ground. This is the early first layer stage of the painting that will provide the foundation for the colors. Sorry for the awful photo w/ the shadow.

Title: "The Prisoner" oil/egg tempera on 12 x 12 canvas
Depicts a dove, trapped, in a tower-wearing a inquisition styled cap a nod to Goya`s Los Caprichos etchings. Holding a tarot card of The Tower-which has many readings-Oppression,Calamity,Imprisonment...and various other disasters...

San Antonio Art League Museum: Fundraising silent auction happening at their first annual holiday gala.
The cost of the event is free.
The gala will be at the Radisson Hotel, 502 W. Durango Blvd, San Antonio TX (the name of the hotel is changing sometime in Dec.)
December 3rd 2009 from 6 to 10pm.
Hors d'oeu'vre , beer and wine complementary and cash bar will be available.

Not such a great start to this weekend...had a pipe start to leak in the house and had quite a mess...wish I could go into art mode, had a lot of cleaning to do...then I found a baby rabbit in the pool...had to remove the poor little creature and bury under a tree...among the roots and say a silent prayer to send him back to the Great Rabbit in the sky...have a week to finish my donation canvas for the silent auction for the San Antonio Art League Museum Gala...at least i started on it...apologize for the glare on the pic...I will update with finished pics soon!

The Sting of Inspiration

I just about finished this watercolor, which was arduous, because of the honeycomb head, which I had to redraw over and over again because I am totally hopeless at straight lines and consistency because as soon as I thought I had the pattern going the shapes would start to get out of whack. I furthermore appreciate the genius of bees, because each honeycomb is always perfect and even. My husband says the queen must know calculus, possibly even trig or some other high mathematics...

I used Daniel Smith watercolors, especially lapis lazuli blue for the sky, this is from their Prima Tek series made from earth minerals. This creates the granulated effects, which are tricky to control sometime but the spontaneity and texture that can be produced is unpredictable but, interesting.
